This is the message we received from the organisers of the Special Needs Children’s Christmas Party, of which Thermelec have been a proud sponsor for the last 10 years.

Over 2,000 children attended WA’s largest Christmas Party for children that struggle with serious illnesses, special needs, disabilities or suffer from unique challenges in their life.

They were selected by local schools and government, community and charitable organisations.

The children were treated to rides and entertainment, a 3 hour stage show featuring local and national entertainers, loads of yummy treats and fun and exciting activities.

The highlight of the day for the children was meeting Santa and being treated to Santa’s Toy room, where they each received 2-3 fantastic presents to take home.

Since the day we have received many messages from mums & dads that were overwhelmed by the generosity of the community that made this day possible for their children.

Footage of the day can be seen on our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/perthspecialchildrenschristmasparty

This day is fully funded by local businesses and organisations.

We would like to say a huge THANK YOU to all our AMAZING sponsors and volunteers – we couldn’t have done this without your support.

Every year the Make A Wish Foundation organise a Special Children’s Party, for the children of Perth.

The organisation works with many local charities, schools, community groups and government organisations to make this happen. The children invited may be suffering from either life threatening illnesses, physical / intellectual impairment, domestic violence, or living in underprivileged circumstances.

These special children will be treated to a day of celebrities, entertainment and stage shows, carnival rides, activities and loads of yummy food and treats. They will also experience Santa’s toy cave filled with thousands of high quality toys where they will receive 3 or 4 each to take home. Their aim is pretty high and it is their intention to provide a day that these families will remember and appreciate for years to come!

The event is held in The Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre in Mounts Bay Road, and is supported by 92.9 / Dominos / Storage King / The Coffee Club, and Thermelec, amongst many others. The date of this year’s event is 19th November.

Having donated to this cause for a number of years, we would encourage local businesses to get on board and make this year’s event even better.

Smokie 1
Working Smoke Alarms

This is an excerpt from the national and electrical communications association news letter (neca), regarding smoke alarms and I thought it would be worthwhile sharing with our customers. Most of you have smoke alarms connected to your Thermelec alarm system, however the older ones are not photoelectric which is the latest recommended technology.

Tragically each year in Australia there are over 10,000 house fires resulting in more than 70 deaths, 1,500 injuries and millions of dollars worth of property damage. Many of these homes did not have a working smoke alarm.

Only working smoke alarms can provide the critical early warning needed to save lives and minimize property damage. When you are asleep you loose your sense of smell. A smoke alarm is your electronic nose and will alert you if there is smoke from a fire.

A small fire can grow to involve an entire room in just 4 minutes. A smoke alarm provides early warning and time to escape.

ALL smoke alarms:
• Need to be tested and cleaned regularly
• Need to be replaced after 10 years
• DFES recommends photoelectric smoke alarms.

Smoke alarm regulations require owners to have mains powered smoke alarms fitted to all residential properties in Western Australia that are subject to sale, rent or hire. It is the responsibility of the owner to ensure that the smoke alarms fitted are:

• No more than 10 years old
• In working order
• Permanently connected to mains power.

So check your smoke alarms / test the batteries / replace batteries yearly / replace smoke alarms every 10 years.

Lets make 2016 our safest year ever.

It seems every week there are new developments in technology. Some of our clients are going on to National Broadband or getting rid of their land lines to save money.

Some of our customers are converting over to GPRS units, which are linked to the monitoring station via a sim card. There is a one off cost for the unit installation but there are no ongoing call costs.

Monitoring is more expensive but what you save on your line rental more than covers the cost of the monitoring. This system also means you don’t have to have a central filter installed.

These systems also report to the monitoring station daily or hourly depending on your needs, so any problems can be reported to you, the client earlier
