How does my alarm system work?
A: The alarm system is a selection of devices placed around your home in the most likely break in areas. All the devices are controlled by a central panel which is hooked up to your phone system. Once a zone has been violated the alarm system then dials out and transmits a message to the Monitoring Centre. Entering your code will turn off the alarm system.
Why is my motion sensor giving false alarms?
A: A motion detector may activate falsely due to windows left open causing curtains or window coverings to flap. Animals may have gotten into areas where they are normally excluded when the system is activated, or installation of heaters / coolers affecting the temperature may cause alarm activation.
Why does my alarm system take so long to notify the Monitoring Centre?
A: The alarm system provides a delay period for the user. This delay period allows the user to disarm the system in order to prevent an alarm activation. The delay period can range from 30 seconds up to 3 minutes depending on how your system is programmed.
Why does my keypad display not ready?
A: Your keypad is informing you that the alarm system is not ready to turn on (arm). Common reasons for this are that a door or window is not completely closed, a motion detector may be sensing movement, or a previous alarm has not been cleared out of the memory. Correct the condition and the alarm system will be ready to arm.
My alarm went off accidentally, but I quickly put in the code and shut it off. I expected a call, but no one called. Why not?
A: The system allows a brief period for you to turn off your system before an alarm signal is sent to the Monitoring Centre. This gives you enough time to cancel the signal and prevent a false alarm.
What happens when I press the panic or fire alarm buttons on the touchpad?
A: If you hold down the panic or fire alarm buttons on the touchpad for 3 to 5 seconds, an alarm is transmitted to the customer Monitoring Centre, and if we are unable to verify the emergency by contacting you the Monitoring Centre will follow the emergency procedure as per your instructions.
If the power goes off, will my alarm system still work?
A: Yes, in case of a power loss, the back-up battery will activate to maintain your alarm protection for several hours. In the event your battery is low, a low battery signal will be sent to the Monitoring Centre so you can be notified.
If I have an emergency, should I call the Monitoring Centre first?
A: No, if you have an emergency, call 000 first. If you are unable to call 000, then press the panic or fire alarm button on your touchpad, and we will request emergency services.
What should I do if I’m moving?
A: Inform the office a minimum of 4 weeks prior to your move date so we can arrange to stop monitoring the premises, and stop any automatic payments you have set up to us.
Should I take my alarm system with me?
A: With labour costs being a large proportion of an alarm system it is better to arrange a new system be installed in your new property. Call us and we can arrange to have your new system installed when you move in.
I set the fire alarm off and now there is a light on my keypad, what should I do?
A: Wait until the smoke clears and then press *7, this should reset the smoke alarm.
